The coin, in detailTether (USDT)

The most traded stablecoin. Liquidity everywhere.

What is Tether?

USDT (Tether) is the most widely traded cryptocurrency in the world by daily volume. Pegged to the US dollar, it serves as the backbone of crypto liquidity — the default settlement currency across exchanges, DeFi protocols, and peer-to-peer markets globally.

With the largest market capitalization of any stablecoin, USDT is available on many blockchains and exchanges. Its ubiquity makes it the de facto standard for moving dollar-denominated value in the crypto ecosystem.

For traders, USDT provides a way to park capital during market volatility without converting back to traditional currency. For everyday users, it offers a stable medium for payments, remittances, and savings — particularly valuable in regions with volatile local currencies.

How Tether Works

USDT is a digital token designed to always be worth one US dollar. Tether says each USDT is backed by its reserves. When you buy USDT, you get a token you can send to anyone, trade on exchanges that list it, or use in DeFi protocols that accept it.

Tether Ecosystem

  • Primary trading pair on centralized and decentralized exchanges
  • Cross-border payments especially popular in emerging markets
  • Available on 15+ blockchains for maximum flexibility
  • Peer-to-peer trading and over-the-counter settlement

Team & Development

USDT is issued by Tether Holdings, a company affiliated with the iFinex group (which also operates the Bitfinex exchange). Founded by Brock Pierce, Reeve Collins, and Craig Sellars in 2014, Tether was the first stablecoin and has maintained market leadership. The company publishes quarterly attestation reports of its reserves.

FAQ

Questions.

Which network should I pick for USDT?

The one the receiving wallet uses. Bought by ACH, wire, Bre-B, PIX or SPEI, USDT is delivered on Ethereum or Tron; by QR Ph, QRIS or UPI, on Ethereum only. Sending on another network can lose the coins.

What networks does USDT run on?

USDT is available on Ethereum (ERC-20), Tron (TRC-20), BNB Chain, Solana, Avalanche, Polygon, and many others. Tron is the most popular for low-cost transfers. Make sure your wallet matches the network you select. On Swaps, USDT is delivered on Ethereum or Tron, depending on the way you pay.

Is USDT safe to hold?

USDT is the most liquid stablecoin. Tether says each USDT is backed by its reserves. Tether publishes quarterly attestation reports. As with any stablecoin, holding large amounts involves some counterparty risk — the trust that the issuer maintains adequate reserves.

Can I swap USDT for USDC or other tokens?

Swapping is paused on Swaps while we rebuild it; buying and selling work.

Can I sell USDT on Swaps?

Yes, to a US bank account in your name, by ACH or wire. The fee to sell is 1% (Bridge + Swaps), shown before you send. A USDT sale also carries Bridge's 0.10% fee, shown on its own line before you send. Residents of the EEA can sell USDC only.
